Day 11 - Siem Reap - Le Tigre de Papier Cooking Class

This morning we are taking a class to learn to make some traditional Cambodian food. 1 starter and 1 main.  I'm going to make Banana Flower Salad and then Khmer style chicken.  Sounds delicious!

It started with a tour of the market to show us what was available. It was the cleanest market that Tracey and I have seen in our travels.  We all bought saffron powder because it was cheap.  We asked our guide if it was genuine... and she assured us it was.  Turns out yes it's genuine.., turmeric!!! For some reason they call it saffron! We didn't find this out until we were cutting it up in class.
Decked out for our cooking class with Lorelle and Colin from Victoria.  Turns out they know Tracey's Aunt Careen & Uncle Ray. Small world!

My raw ingredients for the banana flower salad.
Our feast!  It was awesome... and Kirstin I finally know the secret to that sauce we love... You need to cook it!!

The class was amazing... Food fabulous and company over lunch great.

Here is a link our chef sent us... Hopefully it shows how to make the dishes we cooked today: http://angkor-cooking-class-cambodia.com/html/video.php?p_id=2#i_bottom

  1. Sounds as if you both had a good time. Giving Axel a wok, noodles and sauces for his birthday on Monday. You might have an interest in cooking in common. M
