Day 10 - Angkor Wat temples

The photos say it all really.  We took a tuk tuk and visited 5 of the temples. (1 day pass = $20) I must say that I really enjoy a tuk tuk ride.  Your kind of still amongst everything (unlike an air conditioned bus) but still comfortable and enjoying the breeze.

Temple 1 - Angkor Wat
Temple 2 - Prasat Kravan (small)
Temple 3 - Ta Prohm - major restoration works here (made famous in the Indiana Jones movie Temple of Doom)
Temple 4 - Angkor Thom

Temple 5 - Phnom Bakheng (for sunset,
though the cloud didn't make for too spectacular a sunset.  It seemed as though every tourist around had the same idea and converged at the top of this temple ... A bit like going to Meca)

We topped off the day with dinner at a not-for-profit restaurant - Green Tree owned by an Australian and his partner. He volunteers for the green gecko project which helps the street kids in Cambodia. Check out their website: greengeckoproject.org

We spent sometime talking with the restaurant owner and found out that a Vietnamese conglomerate operate Angkor Wat and very little if any of the profits from tourism go back into Siem Reap or the town infrastructure.  The only benefit are the jobs that are created.

Finally ended the day with another hilarious traditional Khmer massage for $6 US for 60mins.  Feeling great!!
